About the work
"This work originated from a smile and a question: what if enlightenment simply stands in the kitchen cabinet? By placing an everyday cleaning product next to a spiritual icon, I wanted to blur the line between the sacred and the domestic.
The Buddha sits there calmly, unaffected, while Dreft eucalyptus promises ‘extra hygiene’. But what is actually being cleaned here? The surfaces — or the ego? The composition plays with contrast: consumption versus contemplation, advertising versus ritual.
The Mondrian-like background enhances that tension. It is sleek, Western, rational. Inside sits a figure that is precisely letting go. And then that bottle — large, present, almost absurd.
‘Buddha Dreft’ is no joke, but also not a sermon. It is an invitation to look, to smile, and perhaps to pause for a moment at the question: what are we actually trying to clean?”
